"COVE HOUSE"

A map of Weymouth harbour showing the area visible in this view towards the harbour entrance and the open sea.

The Weymouth lifeboat is seen from the rear at its moorings still situated at the same place as in the 1930's. The houses visible along the harbour front closely match the author's description of "Cove House", this name possibly inspired by the street name "Cove Row" just across the harbour from where the view was taken.

A note of historical interest: in 1347, the ancient borough of Weymouth was able to send twenty ships and 246 mariners to the siege laid to Calais by Edward III against Philippe de Valois, king of France.
