Readers of the letters, diaries and other autobiographical writings of the various members of the Powys family will find numerous scattered references to their many friends and relatives. Two of the most influential of these figures were Bernard Price O'Neill, medical doctor and Renaissance man, and their cousin the Hon. Ralph Shirley, writer, publisher and editor of the Occult Review. In this monograph, Jacqueline Peltier, author of Alyse Gregory: A Woman at Her Window (1999) in the Powys Heritage Series, draws on original research, hitherto unpublished sources and various personal reminiscences to weave these scattered strands together into the first coherent portraits of two singular individuals who both played important roles at one point or another in the careers of John Cowper, Theodore and Llewelyn Powys.
