Franklin Delano Roosevelt (1882-1945)
One can only hope now that the great Mr. Roosevelt by some inspired conjuring-trick, may be able to change the actual tempo of human psychology in this amazing country in at least some important ways.
I can only pray that now when I have nothing but my pen wherewith to carry on the fight I am reaching these same lost misfits, these 'morons' as they are called, who like myself, but without my Legion of Devils, are being constantly oppressed. But the new President that man after my own heart has his eye on all this, as on much else in this land, and my belief is that the change he is occupied in bringing about is a much deeper, a much more psychic one, than most people realize. For nearly thirty years I have been praying that such a man might dominate this great country. More power to him!
(John Cowper Powys, Autobiography)
