Franklin Delano Roosevelt (1882-1945)

One can only hope now that the great Mr. Roosevelt by some inspired conjuring-trick, may be able to change the actual tempo of human psychology in this amazing country in at least some important ways.
I can only pray that now — when I have nothing but my pen wherewith to carry on the fight — I am reaching these same lost misfits, these 'morons' as they are called, who like myself, but without my Legion of Devils, are being constantly oppressed. But the new President — that man after my own heart — has his eye on all this, as on much else in this land, and my belief is that the change he is occupied in bringing about is a much deeper, a much more psychic one, than most people realize. For nearly thirty years I have been praying that such a man might dominate this great country. More power to him!

(John Cowper Powys, Autobiography)
