Between 1913 and 1920 John Cowper was encouraged by Llewelyn to write for the papers and he did provide quite a number of essays for different magazines, The Dial, for instance but also for The Little Review which published his first magazine article in March 1915, 'Maurice Browne and the Little Theatre'. But he was also published in Forum, the San Francisco Bulletin, The New York Times, The American Mercury, The Bookman, Century, The North American Review, The Haldeman-Julius Quarterly.
